Three in One

[print friendly version]

People from more primitive cultures when introduced to the ‘Triune God’ of Christianity are quite mystified by and even fearful of an image of a god with three heads. Without reassurance and explanation, to them such a god is the stuff’ of nightmares and witchcraft.  As a Christian I am certainly not fearful of God but I must admit to being mystified by the concept of the Three In One.  It is just so hard to get my head around the idea of three identities, quite distinct in character and purpose and at the same time existing and reigning as one totally unified God. A mystery to boggle the mind.

But not to undermine my faith. No. More to make me revere and love him even more.  A god that I could fully understand would not be a god at all. He would not be capable of all that the Bible reveals that he has done and continues to do.

There are many mysteries surrounding God but the most awesome mystery of all is that, despite our terrible unworthiness, He loves us totally and unconditionally and invites us to live with him eternally.

This song makes an attempt to describe in simple terms the three persons of the Triune God and celebrate their individual and collective magnificence.

Matt 3:16-17, Matt 28:19, John 14:16-17, 2 Cor 1:21-22, 1 Peter 1:1-2, Eph 4:4-6, Col 1:15-17, John 10:30, Gen 1:1-2

God the mighty Father, (God the mighty Father)

Maker of the universe.

Jesus loving Saviour, (Jesus loving Saviour)

God made man to live on the earth.

God the Holy Spirit, (God the Holy Spirit)

Living in our hearts today.

Three in One, Triune God,

The Life, the Truth and the Way.

Three in One, Triune God,

The Life, the Truth and the Way.

Three in One, Father Son and Spirit.

Three in one, Triune God.

Three in One, the perfect combination:

Father, Spirit, Jesus the Son.
