Get Ready

John the Baptist was a remarkable man in so many ways. If you had met this ragged individual with his dishevelled appearance (complete with camel’s hair cloak and rough leather belt) and his outspoken manner you may have been somewhat taken aback. However at the same time you would have marvelled at his strength of character and the challenging things he had to say. John didn’t hold back. He told people (especially the religious leaders of his day) exactly where they were going wrong and where they were headed if they refused to change their ways.

It’s easy for us to look at those people and to admire John the Baptist for attacking their sinful and hypocritical lives. But we are no better. The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”(Rom 3:23) and “God judges everyone by the same standard.”(Rom 2:11) Thank God that John didn’t just condemn, but pointed his listeners clearly to Jesus, the way of salvation. So too we need to listen to the words of John and follow Jesus.

Matt 3:1-15, Luke 1:11-17, Mark 13: 24-27, 32-37.

Chorus

A voice cried out in the wilderness, “Prepare a way for the Lord.

The days are dark and the winds do howl. You need help to find the way.”

Thus God he spoke long years ago through John of humble birth.

But today He’s speaking to us still in words to rock the Earth.

Get ready, you people, open up your minds,

Open up your hearts and leave the past behind.

Come to me and I’ll be with you

And we’ll walk hand in hand.

Get ready, you people, He’s come to Earth,

He’s defeated sin and he’s brought new birth.

He wants us all to follow Him

And leave the past behind.

Chorus

Get ready, you people, there’s a better way

With Jesus by your side through night and day.

Stay with Him and believe in Him

And your life will turn around.

Get ready, you people, He’s come to Earth,

He’s defeated sin and he’s brought new birth.

He wants us all to follow Him

And leave the past behind.

Get ready, you people, open up your minds,

Open up your hearts and leave the past behind.

Come to me and I’ll be with you

And we’ll walk hand in hand.

Chorus
